Infiniti G35 paint problems — I never thought I would have them. It’s an Infiniti, after all! Synonymous with quality, or so I thought.
I bought a G35 new for my wife in 2004. It is still a great car except for the Infiniti G35 paint problems! Everything on the car works great. However….
I recently drove it to Palm Springs, as my car was in the shop. When I got there, I noticed that the paint on the roof was peeling or something. I didn’t have time to investigate it, I worked about 18 hour days for a week volunteering at an event for a well known international speaker. But when I got back I noticed serious infiniti G35 paint problems!
The clearcoat was peeling off. It started as a small area, but has gotten bigger and bigger. So what did I do? Look on the internet, of course. In particular there is a G35 forum that has many posts about 2004 Infiniti G35 paint problems. So I thought, maybe Infiniti would stand up and want to deal with their Infiniti G35 paint problems.
So I went to the local dealer, actually the same location where I bought the car new, although it is now under new management. I met the service director, who was very nice, and explained that there was no warranty for this sort of thing, but that my Infiniti G35 paint problems might be addressed by the factory.
Except that it wasn’t, she called me back today and apologetically said that the factory rep was not interested in doing anything about my Infiniti G35 paint problems. Now, I have a 1993 Mustang and the paint is perfect. I have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee and other than a number of scratches and dents, the paint on it is also perfect. And, from reading the online forums it seems like there are LOTS of Infiniti G35 paint problems. And it doesn’t look like they have corrected them, either, from what I read.
Did I mention that the car is kept garaged?
So BEFORE you but an Infininti, if you plan to keep it more than, say, 5 years, you might want to look into the horrible paint they have used. I am VERY disappointed in them, and I won’t be buying another Infiniti product.
I am so glad to hear I am not alone. I purchased an 06 for my daughter. One owner. The car is black and the paint has become dull and is chipping on the roof also.
I have a Black infiniti G35 noticed what looked like
scratches on the roof top. Come to find the clear was cracking! It now has spread like cancer on the hood and trunk. The paint on the roof has literally chipped off, right down to the bare metal!!!. I also had 1993 Infinity J30 and I’ve had no complaints untill now. I have been a loyal Infiniti customer. I am disapointed Infinity will not step up and recall the paint. I have seen 2 other Infiniti’s with the same roof top chipping off. Another black and a maroon one. May be if we all STAND UNITED, we can influence Infiniti to COME CORRECT!
DISAPOINTED INFINITI OWNER!
I bought my wife an infinity g35 (2004 model) and within 3 years the paint started pealing off for no apparent reason. I am very disturbed to find that that the factory nor the dealership is backing up
This defect….WTF!!!!!!!
Same problem here! I took the car to a Tallahassee dealer; they claimed that they’d check if Infiniti would do something about it (but they did not not think so). Today after months of waiting I called Infiniti -they have nothing on file and told me to take the car to a dealer so they can take pictures. The car looks horrible! I am a Realtor and embarrassed to drive such a bad looking car. The only good thing is that I tell my customers how poorly Infinity handles this issue and to not purchase an Infiniti. I am certain it would be cheaper for I to fix the problem than loosing customers over this.
Yet another G35 with paint problems. 2006 G35X. There are about four spots on the hood that have just shown up. I’ll take it to the dealer so it can be shunned too.
I’ve owned two Q45s before this but I think it’s the end of the line for Infinitis in my garage.
I have a black 2006 G35 with the same problem. The paint at the top of the fenders, trunk and spoiler is damage. I have seen 4 other Infinitis G35 with the same problem (all black). It look like this is a big problem and Infiniti factory is doing a really poor customer service job.
I have a 2011 G37 with a blue slate finish. It has small chips and pits all over the front hood. My wife is really annoyed that we paid so much for a car with such lousy quality.
Well, add me to the list. I have 1 2006 white G35 and I noticed a couple of chip spots on the roof and the edge where the sun roof is installed. I called because I am on an extended warranty. Naturally, that part of the warranty ran out less than 2 months ago. Truly a shame Infiniti does not stand behind their product.
Well, now you can add me to the list. I contacted the Consumer Affairs dept. last week and was given a case number. I received a call that said they cannot do anything about it. They never even looked at it or asked for pictures! I have a white G35 Coupe, 2005 model. Never been wrecked and perfect in every way except for the paint. It is cracking and peeling down to bare metal in two places (so far). On top by the sunroof and on the hood beside the right light.
These are supposed to be considered high end vehicles. Infinity will lose more in sales than they would in covering these vehicles that have paint peeling off of them (unless it is happening to ALL of them). Paint should not be peeling off of a 7 year old car, no matter the make. I live in a smaller town and probably have the only Infinity in my community. Of course, if anyone asks if I recommend an Infinity, my answer is going to be that they don’t stand behind their product.
I have a 2003 g35 with the same problem I bought it from the original owner and what started out as small scratches on the roof is now completely pealing and rusting. Also the hood any trunk stain with every drop of water that land on it.
I have a 2005 g35 and also have the same problem. It’s very frustrating to say the least, along with multiple other issues I have had with the car. There are small chips that are on the hood that seem to be getting worse. Looks almost as if someone drove that car behind a vehicle that had tiny rocks falling from it, but that’s not the case. I wax the car every 3 months and this shouldn’t be happening..
Also, both door lock actuators went out, factory CD player stopped playing CD’s, drivers side winder doesn’t roll up right away sometimes when pressing the button to roll it up, hood hinge on the passenger side is giving out so the hood touches the body panel when you try and lift up the hood… Should I go on?? I was thinking the same as everyone else. Infiniti is suppose to be a luxury vehicle and there are issues with this car that shouldn’t happen. I really do like the G35, it is an awesome and fun car, but I don’t think I will buy an Infiniti or “Nissan” again..
My 2006 white G35 sedan has a couple spots where the paint is peeling & bubbling off of the primer. The spots keep growing. Amazing how thin the coat of paint is on these cars. Very similar to a problem I had with my ’88 F150. However, Ford stepped up to the plate and fixed the problem even though it was way past the warranty. Maybe a class action suit will come about against Infiniti/Nissan and force them to do something about this. Pretty sad that they won’t do something about this.
I have been the proud owner of an 07 G35 sedan up until paint problems started showing up on the hood about a year ago. What appeared to be spontaneous flaking has begun to multiply near the front edge of the hood in a couple of locations. It really is like a wholesale flaking of the black paint, exposing bare metal. To me, it looks like the primer failed, or perhaps there is no primer. This is ridiculous. As others have mentioned, I have also owned many other vehicles and have never encountered this type of problem–especially after so few years of ownership!
Needless to say, as much fun as I have had driving my G35, I won’t be getting into the Q50 anytime in the future. At this price point, we as owners expect more from Infiniti. They need to take care of their customers and repair the defective paint job.
Add me to this list also, I have a 2008 G35x thats having paint problems also. I purchased this car about a yr ago and there were only a one or two spots and now its grown all over the hood, roof and rear deck.
Another one bites the dust……..or clear coat!
I have 2003 G35 and the paint near the sunroof and on the spoiler now look like the surface of the moon. The paint has bubbled and the clear coat has chipped. It seemed to have happened overnight.
Infinity needs to offer a restoration deal for customers.
I would think they would want their vehicles to look spotless as we as owners are driving advertisements for them.
I have a 2012 Infiniti G37x in the Smokey Quartz color and the paint has bubbled and peeled back on the roof (in a circuliar form) revealing the medal underneath which has rusted and in several spots on the hood, mostly in circles the paint is just falling off of the car.
This car is a lease and Infiniti says that it looks environmental.
I am less than pleased.
I have a 2008 infinity purchased for my daughter with low miles second owner both bumpers pealing down to base coat. Black car and appears to be a ongoing issue with the black paint original paint is the issue it was not repainted
Let me join your club of Prestigious Infinity owners that now have a P.O.S. – white trash looking vehicle…..My 2004 Dark Blue G35 has been wonderful until about four months ago when the paint started oxidizing and peeling on the hood and roof – and boy does it deteriorate fast once it starts. Dealership doesn’t really care to discuss. It’s so embarrassing to drive and be seen in it. I’ve had over 15 cars since 1974 and this is the first car that the paint fell off. Maybe we can get relief under some type of Lemon Law.
Add me to the list!! 2003 G35 silver sedan. Clear coat gone on half of the front fender. Hood starting to flake off. Back door along window molding flaking away. Spoiler has a spot fading. Side pillars between back door and back window seriously clear coat fading. Seriously, there needs to be a wake up call to Infiniti big wigs. I bet they don’t drive an Infiniti!!
I’ll join the list. I have a 2003 G35 and it looks like a cat dragged its claws across the roof. Clear coat peeling away and this is a car parked in the shade or garage for the last five years. Pathetic. Oh and the driver window doesnt roll up, auto door locks no longer work and i won;t mention the work when the a/c and radio went out (motherboard problem). Never never never again will i but an Infiniti. Poor customer service in Las Vegas too. GM at Towbin is a jerk!!!
I was researching to see if anyone else was having problems with paint on their infiniti and found that we all seem to be in the same boat. I have a 2006 pearl g35. I love my car but am so unhappy that it has paint pealing on both fenders and the passenger door. What’s up with that?
I am really sad by reading all these comments. I had a 97 J30 Infiniti and it ran like a champ until my son wrecked it with 250.000 miles. So when I got my 2005 g35 I was too excited to have it for 250,000 plus. I have bragged on the Infiniti products for years and would recommend to many. Now as I look at white G35 the paint it peeling off the hood, sides and top. Seriously this is ridiculous this car is high $ and performs outstanding, but looks like crap. Please help………any relief on this problem.
I’ll gladly join the list and an thankful I’m not alone! I own a 2093 Infiniti G35 (black obsidian) and the paint in the wing started oxidizing then one day I had some what appeared to be scratches on the roof and it was the clear coat going. Within days, it’s chipped away to the metal and my so called luxury car looks like a white trash mobile! The local dealer won’t do anything and its so frustrating! Shame on you, Infiniti. As much as I love how it drives; I’ll never win another again and will share their poor paint and poor business ethics with everyone!
Well I visited the Infiniti dealership today. That was a joke they tried to act totally like they had never heard of problems of paint peeling. It must be from rocks off the road. Seriously my whole flipping hood is painting as well at the top starting to peel as well as the quarter fenders. They sent me to a body shop – they said the hood had been painted before and this was the problem. I bought the car used from the same dealership with 24,000 miles on it, the hood has never been painted under my ownership. I am going to visit another body shop and get their take on this. People People People I did not buy a G35 INFINITI to look a piece of crap. I had planned on driving several more years. I am with you on sharing the poor paint job and the handling of it through the dealership.
2006 Infiniti g35. The roof is checking terribly. Down to the metal. I also noticed the trunk lid, spoiler and rear quarter panels and beginning to crack too. So upset I just bought the car a year ago and it was mint. Garaged for most of the time I’ve owned it.
Well you can add me to the list of sad and unhappy Infiinity owners as well. I have a 2004 g35, beautiful dark blue sedan. It was my pride and joy. Last fall the clear coat on the roof started to bubble. It spread like wild fire. I had the roof repainted and coated at a local shop where I live. I called the dealer where the car was purchased and they were not willing to assist me. This morning I noticed the same problem is starting on the trunk! I know it will spread again very fast. Do I take it in again and have the trunk re-painted? I guess the same thing will happen to the front hood as well… I can’t afford to have an expensive paint job on the entire car. It is a 2004 and has 85K miles. I have kept it looking like new and it is very embarrassing to drive a nice Infinity around with a crappy paint job! I paid alot for this car and it has been garaged up until the last couple of years. I will not be purchasing another Infinity. It’s too bad because I love that car! I also note that the glove box is starting to buckle a little. I guess Infinity builds them to last only a few years so that they will sell more cars? Don’t think that is going to work out for them. I hope others are made aware of these problems before they buy! I am disappointed!
I have a 2007 Infiniti M35 and after 3 months of having it the clearcoat is peeling and came off on the roof and patches are all over the hood and trunk now. I had a choice that day to buy the light blue lexus is250
or the maroon infiniti…guess i chose wrong 🙁
Having disappointing trouble with clear coat pealing on 2007 M35 Black Infiniti purchased in 2008 as a new car! Any suggestions regarding resolution by the company for fairness!
Having disappointing trouble with clear coat pealing on 2007 M35 Black Infiniti purchased in 2008 as a new car! Any suggestions regarding resolution by the company for fairness!
New comment!
Just got rid of my M35 2007…nothing but paint problems… It started on top… Paid over $1000 to have it fixed then three months later I see the same thing happening to the hood. Finally had that done only to find a couple months later the truck peeling. Enough was enough… Got rid of it and bought a Lexus 300H 2019… If anyone asks me, I tell them to never buy a Infiniti..they do not stand behind their product… Too bad as it was a great car before the paint problems started…
Like everyone else here has posted…we have a G35 and the clear coat is coming off like crazy! It’s hard to believe they will not correct this!
Add me to the list, too! I have a 2006 G35 in the serengetti sand color. I became the second owner in 2009. It had some spots on the hood that we thought could be buffed out but turned out to be from tree sap eating through the clear coat. Now, I notice lighter color swirls and streaks on the hood and trunk and some peeling starting where the hood and right front fender meet. This is ridiculous! With all the complaints about Infiniti paint quality, it seems like a class action lawsuit would be in order. I’ve thought about having the car repainted but not sure it would be worth it. I love the performance of the car, but am thinking my next car won’t be an Infiniti.
Same problem for me. @005 Red G35 Coupe that has been babied, but the paint job looks like it has been sand blasted. chips all over the front and roof. Clear coat completely off the mirrors. Paint is bubbling up. Love the car hate the paint job. I will never buy another Infinity. Crossroads Infinity in Raleigh NC said it is not their problem. Well losing customer’s must not be either.
Pissed off in NC
Going to the local news..Lets expose this atrocity.
I am so mad! I bought an Infinity G35 brand new in 2006. This year on the front hood and side panels, the pain has just started chipping off! After spending almost $40,000. On this car, I am mad. The service manager offered no help and I am waiting to hear response from factory!
I have posted here before – it doesn’t seem that infinity is willing to do anything, I have heard of a friend that had a truck – same age as mine and they totally reprinted his truck! Can we post in more places to dissuade prospective infinity buyers? Can we all get together and do something else? No telling how many others are out there!!
Same here….Black 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe and my roof is a mess. Everybody thinks I cheated on my girlfriend and she carved it up. Let’s get this Class Action Lawsuit going boys
Same here guys/ girls paint on this car is TRASH. The guy I work with told me to see if I can file for a Class Action Lawsuit! It only takes 20 people and it looks like more then that on this website. plus the people that have the same car which is millions! It’s the only way to be heard! I am all in!
I have a 2004 G35. And the paint is peeling on the hood and sunroof please someone do something. This is terrible. We shouldn’t have to beg the manufacturer to help us.
I have a 2008 G37, black. It’s mysteriously covered from top to bottom with white pit marks that have increasingly developed over the last year. I’ve never seen anything like this. My mother’s ’95 Taurus has nicer paint! I’m the second owner (not sure if that matters in a class action law suit), but l am with the commenter who said we should get a class action suit together. I searched “Infinity paint defects” expecting to find a witness because this problem is not my fault or normal. Makes sense so many are reporting this issue, but what a shame we can’t do anything about it. Pass the word. From Sacramento.
I purchased the 2006 pearl infinity g35 three years ago and have several big spots on the front hood and front panel that the paint is missing. Big silver spots from underneath. What an embarrassment from infinity!
Add another to the list. My black 07 g35x looks like someone took a motorized sander to my hood. I took it to a local body shop and they asked if the car may have been vandalized, because the have never seen anything like it before. I have an apt with Infiniti next week, but not holding my breath. Like many other posters, mine happened seemingly overnight.
I have a 2007 G35 pearl white and my paint is peeling near my right headlight and roof between my windshield and sunroof.
I take good care of my car and while washing it the paint on the roof just started peeling away and is getting worse every time it has rained this week. my car was fine like the others who posted here and just all of a sudden, the paint started peeling and now my car looks crappy and I don’t know whether to trade it in or fight to get it fixed. I only have had it for 18 months and paid a lot for this thing to look like it does now.
It’s unfortunate, but I am also one of those owners of an 07 G35 whose paint job just started to crumble..essentially overnight. I am so frustrated because I have taken exceptional care of my car.
Seemingly, over the course of two months my paint just starting to fade and spot. I was told this morning the clear coat is starting to go on the roof, the side panels, the door around the handles. Of course the offered no remedy at all.
After reading all the posts, I am convinced Infinity’s paint is inferior, just as the interior material has faded so goes the way of the exterior paint.
Let me know if there is a class action suit or recall. I would gladly submit my information.
These cars cost a lot of money and there is no way after 8 years I should be looking at a $4,500 paint job.
I have a Red 2007 M35, the clear coat is peeling off the roof. I bought the car new for about $40k. My 2000 Ford truck paint is perfect, It’s ridiculous for a car that is compared to Lexus, BMW and other luxury brands to have this problem.
Infiniti should publicly apologize for this problem rather than be dishonest and try to sweep it under the rug.
I’m now in the market for a new car, and it won’t be another Infiniti.
Wow. I can’t believe what I am reading. I have a 2003 Infiniti G35, with Black Obsidian paint, except for the roof, where I now have Pure Red Rust from the paint peeling away, and then the trunk surface, which is speeding its way to match the roof. When I phoned Infiniti about it the service tech was ALL TOO quick to say that paint problems were VERY rare, unless of course the car had been mistreated by its owner. The tech proceeded to obliquely assign the issue to me, by listing off about 20 different possible ways that the paint defect could be MY FAULT. IT WAS ALMOST AS IF HE HAD SAID IT ALL MANY TIMES BEFORE. I’m really upset by Infiniti’s refusal to acknowledge what is clearly their clear coat problem, Knowing what I do about big corporations, though, I am not really surprised. What jackals. I’ll spread the word to avoid Infiniti and Nissan products far and wide. My decrepit looking auto is up for sale on Craigslist right now, if I can even find a buyer. My next car will be a Volkswagen. Thanks for sharing your stories and thanks for letting me rant, y’all.
Have a dark blue 2003 G35. Bought new in 2002. My paint started to peel right about the time the warranty expired. I talked to the dealership as well as corporate and they state it was out of warranty and it was an environmental issue and that nothing could be done. But over the years I have noticed that there are way too many other car owners with the same issue. Something needs to be done., When I bought my car I was told that the clear coat was to help provide many years of protection. Well it didn’t work I have a great running car that looks like crap.
Well it’s both good and bad to see so many people with the same problem. I have an 06 G35 (Black) which I love and take very good care of, but about a year ago I noticed the paint on the roof, trunk and hood began to show white spots. I had someone check it out and tell me it was a break down of the clear coat. The car looks like it has a peeling sunburn now. Since this started I have noticed several other G35’s with the same problem, all black. It is a shame that Nissan will not take care of this problem but I’m not surprised with what is going on with GM as of late. Just goes to show that the big corporations don’t give a damm about the customer once they got there money.
I have a red 2004. Drove to SD from AZ where it was in the sun all the time. It appears to be worse after hail storms have hit it. Not denting but clear coat damage. Working with Body shop and insurance to see if it can be covered under hail coverage. It could be just this problem. I have the body shop manager looking at it tomorrow. If they do not cover it though I definitely want to be in on the class action. I have NO resale value left to the car because of this damage.
I have an 2005 G35 Dark Blue and the clear coat started pealing all over. In one spot on the hood, the the actual paint came all the way off down to the bare metal. Obviously some defective paint process but I have no hopes that Infiniti will fix this.
So here I am seeing I am not the Lone Ranger in a 2003 G35 purchased brand new, and garage kept and having roof and trunk area with severe blistering and as of today researching cost of a paint job and going to Dealer for an answer to what is happening to a vehicle maintained and cared for from day 1!! I can see this is going to be a challenge to be taken seriously by Dealership and a Corporate level. I am embarrassed to be driving my vehicle looking like this, and looking at an expensive solution out of pocket.
Add another 2006 G35. Hood and roof are peeling and seems to be spreading to the trunk. I’m the original owner, so I know there has not been any damage what-so-ever to those panels. I have also worked in the auto insurance claims and collision repair industry. Every expert I’ve talked to said that original manufacturer’s paint does not peel like this. Apparantly only on Infinitis.
I have a White 2006 G35 and the paint is peeling from the hood and roof. This is straight up wrong.
2006 G35, white, paint completely coming off hood and top of car. My husband called infiniti after we bought a pathfinder from Nissan. Nissan suggested calling infiniti about any recalls and they of course said no. So now we are looking at paying Maco 750.00 to repaint the car. This is ridiculous! Absolutely absurd. Poor Poor Poor customer service from such a high end line of cars. Seems like there would be something, we as consumers, could do to have this issue resolved. Infiniti portrays having such luxury vehicles. Seems like a lawsuit should be filed, for false advertising.
2006 g35 6MT silver. Just bought this car a few months ago used. I’m the second owner and the paint just started coming off in tiny little circles on the hood. Not happy.
2004 g35.. paint clear coat is peeling off the roof like snake skin. This sucks
ditto here I have a 03 Infiniti g35 and I am glad I have seen these posts I thought it was something that I called my paint is peeling on the hood behind the Sun in little circles down to the bare metal where it is now resting I love my car and I guess I will be taking it to have it repainted.
Add me to the list. 03 G35 sedan. I thought it was hail damage or something but overnight little flakes of the clear coat starting coming off and now it has spread across the the entire roof and hood! Is there any way to slow it down or stop it? They need to recall this paint or it will impact their future business. Nice car except for this.
2003 G35 sedan silver. Same problems as I have been reading here: paint flaking on hood as if sandblasted & body panel edges to bare metal.
Separately, the driver window failure, CD player, and hood hinge problems all stuck this car as well.
My 2005 Black Infiniti G35 started showing rust damage in 2009. It’s ugly and looks cheap, but I can’t afford a new paint job since I’m going back to school. I won’t be purchasing another Japanese brand car, especially after Fukushima pollution.
Have a black 2008 QX56 and about 3 years ago we noticed the hood and roof paint looking like it had been sanded. Was turning dull and cloudy. It is now spreading to every area of the SUV. It is embarrasing to have purchased a $70K vehicle and it looks like it should be in the junk yard. Has there been any movement on a class action suit? This shouldn’t be something that a high level manufacturer can get away with.
2011 black G37. Hood showing pitted marks described by several people. White showing underneath. I will take it up with dealer, but don’t expect any response. I will never buy an Infiniti again!
2004 g35 peeling off like the aforementioned snakeskin. roof, trunk not that bad, apparently the hood is starting next.
Garaged for 10 years in south Florida. Sea salt in the Keys did it in 3 years ago.
Makes you leery of buying another $50K Infiniti.
Me too! 2003 black G35. Roof had blisters that popped. Instant rust spots. Had the roof repainted for $400. Last year the tiny bubbles appeared all over my trunk lid over night. In the last month the hood has serious bubbles and “cat” scratches. Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound makes the color sparkle but doesn’t do anything for the clear coat bubbles. … I am sad to read all these posts with not a single solution.
Same problem here on my infiniti G37 2013 . The clear coat is pilling of like cancer !!
I have a Q56 2008 that the hood looks like a cat clawed it , clear coat is completely gone and so is the paint. The car looks awful have never had this happen on any other car and this is the most expensive car I have ever purchased. Love the car put it looks terrible. Would never recommend anyone to purchase one to expensive to have this type of problem, my daughter has a used $3500. car and the paint is perfect on it. For this kind of money they should stand behind their product.
My friend has a 2005 M45 and the clear coat on the roof is going fast. Just noticed the problem yesterday. Will check with the dealership tomorrow to see what they say. With all the complaints I’m reading here I would like to think Infiniti is doing something. I read somewhere they extended the paint warranty from 7 to 10 years. Anybody have any luck?
Same story, ’07 G35 White, purchased new, garaged daily. Paint is separating from the primer in multiple locations. The only panels it’s not coming off of (so far) is the doors. I also have a ’10 EX35 (also purchased new), it hasn’t started peeling (yet). I’m going to discuss with the Dealer and if I get the same cold shoulder, I’ll be certain not to purchase any Infiniti’s ever again. Wish I would have seen this thread before purchasing my second one. It appears no one has had any luck getting this resolved…
Same here. QX56 2008 and same cat got my car. Hood and roof. I did not see one case in the chain that anyone was able to get infinity or a dealership to do anything.
Ditto
I have a QX56 2006 and same cat is getting my car. The hood and roof .. it is the clear coat and paint…. I did not see that coming on a supposed quality vehicle. I as well have not seen anything in the chain where a dealership or The Company are willing to do anything about this issue…. I just purchased a black 37 for my son cant wait to see how this turns.. out …
Wow, same here. And it literally started to peel overnight. I lost my mind. The roof and hood. Horrible scratches in the clear coat, discoloration. Now the roof in peeling… would never expect this on a car like this.
Bummed owner….
Count me in too! I have 2004 G35 also, the rust appears to starting from BEHIND the paint! it hasn’t flaked off yet, but it looks to be only a matter of time.
Sadly I’m in the same boat. I have a 2006 Infiniti G35, Pearl White. I experienced a bubble then peeling off of paint on the passenger side hood about a month ago. Two nights ago I noticed the same thing starting to happen on the drivers side of the hood. After reading these post and scouring the internet for help, it looks as though there is no recourse and I only have more peeling paint to look forward to. I’m wondering has anyone been fortunate enough to have their insurance take care of the problem, or if anyone has had there cars repainted and what the cost was?
I am having a problem with my 2013 infinity paint in the front. I will be going to bring it back seen i bought it in September. They better fix it. lookinf at all the negative reports. I wil go to the news stations with it.
Same problem here. I’ve got a 2007 pearl white G35 coupe. The paint started chipping on the hood, near the head lights and its working its way up. I also have two large spots on the roof where the windshield and sun roof meet, paint has chipped off. It looks like crap! There should be some recall. I’ve never owned a car in the past where paint just chips off. Oh and it’s garage kept..very disappointed Infiniti customer.
I too am having the exact issue with my 2008 Infiniti M35. My clear coat is peeling and you can see the exact line of the dealer transport decals….You can clearly see the outline of the delivery stickers they put on the car to protect it during the transport of the vehicle…..this car is 8 years old and the peeling only started this year…but must be related to the decals….

Add me to the list. A 2007 G35 Sedan white pearl where the paint is chipping off on both sides of the front quarter panels. It’s way too uniform of a paint peeling to be accidental. It’s clearly a manufacturing defect and one Infiniti should be willing to address.
I will gladly join anyone’s class action suit as they should fix our cars!
Infiniti is NOT taking ANY accountabilty for their paint problems and there SHOULD be a major recall. Shame on them.EXACT same thing happened to me.
“I met the service director, who was very nice, and explained that there was no warranty for this sort of thing, but that my Infiniti G35 paint problems might be addressed by the factory. Except that it wasn’t, she called me back today and apologetically said that the factory rep was not interested in doing anything about my Infiniti G35 paint problems. And, from reading the online forums it seems like there are LOTS of Infiniti G35 paint problems. And it doesn’t look like they have corrected them, either, from what I read.”
add me to the list too…my 2006 G35..that has always been garaged and has not even 40K miles on it…paint has cracks in it…never seen that before…:( so unhappy that they will not do anything about it…:(
We have a 2007 M35 that has just started peeling on roof… Seems to be getting worse each day. I was so surprised to read all these complaints about paint over the last couple of years. I thought like many that a company like Infiniti with an expensive car like this would make a better product and would stand by their work. It is a shock that they don’t when with all these complaints it is definite something that they have done that causes this.
I would like to know if anyone has had any success with Consumer Affairs or restitution with Infiniti paying for new paint jobs on their G35 or G37? I am in the same situation with a 2012 G37 and the paint/clear coat is coming of the front bumper.
Any and all response are appreciated.
Just returned from the Infinity dealership today with my 2011 QX56. I had them inspect the paint that is peeling away on the roof just above the windshield. They told me it was from road debris and its not covered. That’s bull. The paint is just flaking off across the entire width of the roof. I called Consumer number. They said it is not under warranty, so nothing they can do. If anyone has any luck with this let me know.
2007 g35x pearl white w same paint problem. Started on roof. Moved quickly. Any solutions?
I have babied my blue 2007 G35 always waxing ever diligent , and recently over night the hood oxides? I have tried every thing to fix the paint. I took it into Macho they said that it is an aluminum hood and they will need to sand it down to bare mental and repaint it to the tune of 600.00. After reading these posts I am worried about the roof, trunk and other parts just going south. This isn’t right That Infinity is selling these self districting great looking cars, They know that the people who buy Infinities love the status, and were willing to pay extra for it, and now the car looks like junk yard trash. Someone needs to bring a suit against them.
Decided to take the car in to have the flaking of the hood and trunk fixed as its been like this for a couple of year now and body shop today told me this is common. I should contact Infiniti about this.. Found this add me to the list too…my 2005 G35..that has always been garage kept and kept clean as clena can be kept on a car lets say it got 80K on it…Roof and truck has bubble like flakey sun burn skin…:( so unhappy Body shop said 4k to fix as it couldnt be color matched correctly unless it was fully painted
Black G35 2003 Infiniti Coupe – Beautiful condition until one day it started peeling from the roof down to bare primer. After calling Infiniti dealership where I purchased the vehicle to explain what was happening, I was treated very rudely. Service Manager stated that my car was old and “what did I expect”? I expect that a high end vehicle which I paid nearly 40K for, back in 2003 , would not begin to peel like a shrimp.
It would cost me more right now to repaint this vehicle than the car is worth, because the rust is already beginning to work it’s magic.
We need to gather all of these people, hire a lawyer and begin a class action suit against Infiniti.
I agree… I have a M35 with same problem and infiniti is not addressing the situation… Count me in on class action…
Add me to the roster as my 2004 Black Pearl Infiniti’s paint is starting to fail too. For example, after buying it 2 years ago from an independent dealer, everything on the car worked great up until 5 months later I noticed my rear right trunk-panel displaying some oddities; whereby it looked like someone “blotted semen” or “blotted goo” on my paint. However, after carefully inspecting it (and taking it to a detailer) they said it was clear coat failure. Guess what? Fast forward one year (after routinely waxing my car and getting it detailed), my roof tonight (7/1/2017) has shown the same thing after being the recipient of a rain storm here in Virginia. Mind you, I had and use my car cover to protect it from environmental damage.
With that being said, and after researching this is an issue across the board involving several owners, I reached out to an online legal directory and asked them how do I file a class action lawsuit against either Infiniti or the Infiniti’s paint manufacturer – that resulted with an attorney from Becker, Kellogg & Berry, P.C. in Springfield, VA contacting me. My advice guys is let’s all collective work together (to seek justice) for this issue. Again, I highly recommend you all pick up the phone and call this firm – just like you would call your Senators on political issues. Because I’m sorry, paying over $4500+ for a new paint job “with the modern cars we have” is not acceptable (as I refuse to have Maaco paint a luxury car).
Unbelievable, i was telling a family member how th paint on my 2006 infiniti G35 is coming off on th front hood. He said you should google and see if there is a recall…no recall, no responsibility, how sad. This makes me sick !!!!
I can’t believe how many people have the same issue! I have a 2006 Infiniti G35 coupe and for a couple years now, the clear coat has slowly been peeling. It is now almost completely peeled off the top of the hood, the spoiler and the roof top. I took it to the dealership when it first started happening and they acted like it wasn’t common (just like it looks they did to many others). I used to be so embarrassed to drive it, and now I’ve just grown accustomed to having a super cheap looking luxury car! It’s ridiculous that Infiniti knows this is a huge problem, yet obviously continues to use the same paint, and ignore all of us. I’ve always said I love my car and will buy another Infiniti, however after reading all these comments and realizing the paint is still a problem I am very unlikely do to so.
2006 G35 coupe….peeling paint/rust at bottom driver’s side door, and in other areas TOO :/

Wow, I see that I am not alone with this issue. Have an ’04 G35 in Twilight Blue that has had no paint issues until this summer in ’17. Within the span of 2 weeks bubbles have formed, popped, and started rapidly peeling on the roof, hood, and now the trunk.
Car has been garaged for the last 8 years of it’s life. So sad to see there is no way to resolve this… If anyone here has had any luck in trying to fix this, or at least make it look better and stop the spreading, please let me know. Thanks!
’04 G35 coupe, what began as slight bubbling on the roof quickly escalated into SHEETS of clear coat coming off. The trunk faded out and the hood also began peeling. I’m 2nd owner (bought in ’06) and the car still has under 50k miles on it. I have loved owning this car, but I’m looking to sell it now and possibly facing repaint costs because it looks so bad. I see here I’m far from alone. If this class action lawsuit happens, count me in.
I have a pearl white 2006 Infiniti G35 Sedan and my paint is peeling big time starting a few years ago. It is happening in multiple areas so I basically would have to get my whole car repainted to fix it. Runs great, love my car, but looks like a beater now because of the paint. 🙁
Me too!. I love how my pearly white 05 G35 coupe drives and feels. ( 90,000 miles) – but the peeling hood paint is atrocious and looks like junk yard material. I’m ashamed to drive to events and park among the good looking cars. Next car? not an Infiniti Too bad!!
Wow! I own a 2009 G37X coupe which I bought new…I just noticed about a 1 inch long piece of paint missing at the top of my drivers door a few days ago, now today it’s 3 X that size! All the way down to bare metal underneath. So I walk around the car and looked to see if I had any other problems. Wouldn’t you know, I have a smaller chip on the other door starting. I constantly get compliments on my car. I will have no problem pointing out how bad the paint is chipping and falling off to people from here on out. My only problem is what can be done???
There is a class action lawsuit, check out the facebook page for this problem mentioned in another one of the comments.
I own a 2012 Qx56 and i’m hav The same problem! I can’t believe that Infiniti it’s not going to do anything about it!! Obviously everyone who owns an Infiniti is having the same problem
Add me to the list… owner of 2008 M35 Sport with black paint (what’s left of it anyways)… clear coat all but gone across hood, roof, and starting on trunk. Can’t even run your hand across it. So disappointed in Infiniti… between this and getting screwed by a different lease return, I’m done with Infniti.
Do yourself a favor and go test drive a Genesis. I bought a ’18 G80 Ultimate and couldn’t be happier. It’s fantastic!
I have a 2007 Infiniti G35x -the paint’s clearcoat is completely gone on passenger side rear door as well as parts of the hood. I don’t plan to repaint due to expense but it looks hideous.
OK, lots of whining about the issue. Anyone found a fix?
Yep, me too. I have a 2007 G35X and the clear coat is peeling off. Hideous look for what is supposed to be a quality upscale vehicle. Is there any chance for a class action lawsuit?
